Cathy Scott named Halifax Economic Development Director | Quote: | HALIFAX – Halifax County did not have to look far for someone to replace retired Economic Development Director Ron Baker. Cathy Scott, who has been interim director since Baker left his office in September due to health reasons, was recently named to the post. The appointment comes after a two-month search that involved a selection committee consisting of representatives from the Halifax County Board of Commissioners, the Economic Development Commission Board and county management staff who were assembled to find the ideal person to assume the key role in the future of Halifax County.
“We went through a methodical and thorough process to obtain the quality economic developer that Halifax County deserves. Mrs. Scott’s vast experience in economic development has shown her to be one of the best in the state of North Carolina,” said Halifax County Manager Tony Brown. “We are looking forward to her joining our team to ensure we pursue appropriate economic development for the citizens of Halifax County.”
Scott has more than 23 years experience in economic development at the local and regional levels, working directly in the recruitment of domestic and international companies and for the expansion and retention of existing business and industry.
She has a strong background in assembling and securing state and federal loans and grant funds to support economic development. Also, she has worked with local economic development organizations in the certification of seven industrial sites and parks in northeastern N.C. as “state certified” industrial sites.
Scott is a graduate of the Basic Economic Development Course at UNC-Chapel Hill and attended the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She is a member of the North Carolina Economic Developers Association (NCEDA) and the North East Economic Developers (NEED) Group.
“Cathy has done a superb job for us over the years in support of our economic development activities and has worked closely with our former director Ron Baker,” said Halifax County Board of Commissioners Chairman Gene Minton. “The knowledge she brings and her rapport with both the county management team and the Economic Development Board will make for a very smooth and seamless transition.” |
